Structural Engineering
Topology-optimised aluminium suspension bracket for a Formula SAE vehicle. Achieved a 34% mass reduction vs. the baseline steel part while exceeding all fatigue life targets. Full FEA validation in ANSYS Mechanical with factor-of-safety ≥ 2.5.
Robotics
Designed and built a desktop 6-axis robot arm from scratch. Custom inverse-kinematics solver, servo actuation, and ROS2 integration.
Thermal / CFD
Parametric coolant manifold design for an EV battery pack. CFD study across 8 manifold geometries, targeting uniform thermal distribution and minimum pressure drop.
Product Design
Medical-grade wrist stabiliser developed with an orthopaedic clinic. Iterative design using 3D-printed prototypes and patient feedback loops.
Who I am
Engineering is about people, not just parts.
I'm Jake — a mechanical engineer with a deep curiosity for how things work and an obsession with making them work better. I studied Mechanical Engineering and have spent time in automotive, medical devices, and robotics sectors.
Outside the lab I enjoy trail running, contributing to open-source hardware projects, and reading about the history of industrial design.
